The Liaunig Museum is architecturally unique, built into a hill next to the Drau. A large part of the building is underground and covered in greenery. A sculpture garden, planned by the architects from Weidlfein Gartenkunst, was created on an area of around 15,000 m2. The garden was designed by CITYGREEN Gartengestaltung GmbH, an experienced partner in the greening of buildings, roofs and green spaces of all kinds. An automatic irrigation system was used to ensure that the perennials and lawns thrive in the long term and that water is used as efficiently as possible.
For challenging projects, Mr. Hubert Trixl likes to bring in the irrigation specialists from Prochaska | TORO right from the start, because as is so often the case, the water pressure was originally barely sufficient to get the necessary quantities of water to the plants. There was also a strict budget requirement in terms of costs and water consumption. The team of experts used hydraulic calculations to determine the exact amount of water required and planned the irrigation precisely, taking into account other important parameters such as soil structure and slope.
This project was successfully implemented thanks to sophisticated water management and the division of the green area into irrigation sections. The perennials are watered precisely via drip pipes. Efficient sprinklers from TORO ensure highly economical irrigation of the lawns. Two TORO TMC 424s, each with 11 or 20 stations and wireless rain sensors, are used for automatic control.
For optimum results and maximum water savings, professional installation of an irrigation system is essential in addition to optimum planning. Under such conditions, the high precision of TORO control units and modern sprinkler nozzles reduces water consumption by up to 30% compared to conventional systems.
As with all greenery, it is important that the planting is continuously maintained by experts.
